Deacons

To be considered for the office of Deacon, a man must be a member of the church for at least one year, during which time he must exemplify the qualifications set forth in 1 Timothy 3:8-13; Titus 1:5-9.

The Deacons are to serve in council and conference with the Pastor(s) in all matters pertaining to the welfare and spiritual work of the church being especially concerned with:

  • Organizing themselves into committees to oversea the work of the church
  • Meeting regularly.
  • Organizing a visitation program for the sick and shut-in members of the church
  • Distributing the elements of communion service
  • Assisting male candidates for baptism
  • Administering the dispersal of the Deacon's Fund through the Deacon's Fund treasurer for the purpose of assisting members of this church and congregation, and individuals in the community who are financially in need
  • Examining all applicants for membership and restoration as set forth in Article 6, Section A of the church by-laws.
  • Providing each new candidate for membership with a copy of the church Covenant and By-Laws and requiring that all such candidates will give assurance that they accept and agree to be governed by them
  • Providing pulpit supplies and overseeing the work of the church when the church is without a Pastor
  • Counseling with the Pastor in church discipline as set forth in Matt. 18:15-17; 1 Cor. 5:9-13; 1 Thess. 5:12-14
  • Meeting at least once a year to revise the church rolls as provided for in Article 6
  • Coordinating all missionary interests as set forth in Article 12, Section F
  • Approving the formation of all church organizations, programs and committees
  • Overseeing the personnel and curriculum of church organizations, programs and committees
  • Examining annually the organizations, programs and committees of the church and making recommendations
  • Maintaining an attitude of watchfulness by prayer, leading the members of this church into a deeper spiritual walk with the Lord
